Happy 4th of July in the US 🇺🇸
Time for some VP updates - keeping this one short. Enjoy some BBQ and fireworks.

Can we film everything in a volume? Not quite, according to location managers at the Mediteranne Film Festival. While virtual tech offers a myriad of benefits, it can't completely replace the depth and authenticity that real locations offer.
But - there are still plenty of use cases for VP, even if the project isn't sci-fi or fantasy.
Authenticity vs. Tech: US-based locations manager Michael Glaser asserted that audiences prefer scenes filmed in real locations rather than on stage, which can't always replicate the experience of characters moving through a space.
Aesthetics Matter: Directors continue to choose locations based on aesthetics and logistics. For example, Netflix's The Grey Man filmed scenes in Croatia's national park despite the absence of tax incentives.
Limitations of Virtual Production: While LED volume walls have advantages such as allowing filming of summer scenes in winter, they have some technical limitations. Real-life location scouting is still necessary for plate shots used by LED Volume Walls, stated Peter Gluck, another seasoned locations manager.
Necessity in Sci-Fi: For productions like the Star Wars series, "Skeleton Crew," most of which was shot on a 'volume set,' virtual production is essential due to the inability to scout real locations that don't exist, noted Ted Kim, a locations manager.
Urban Development Issues: Rising urban development complicates location selection, requiring post-production work to amend modern structures. Filming logistics in urban areas, such as setting up units and crews, are increasingly difficult due to changes like the demolition of parking garages, added Kim.
