In my Sora article last week, I mentioned that we hadn’t seen a new Will Smith spaghetti video to compare progress.

Well, Will Smith made his own video. And then this bizzaro thing just dropped. Also, Will Smith + spaghetti is not the AI progress bar standard I was expecting.

We’ve got a big roundup of new products and gear demoed at HPA this past week.

Feels like a mini warmup to the big show coming up: NAB.

We did a bunch of videos last year (different brand, VP Land didn’t exist).

STAGE A

What was demoed at the HPA Tech Retreat

The Hollywood Professional Association Tech Retreat has wrapped up.

No videos of talks or panels are online (yet), but we gathered the latest updates and demos that were announced at the retreat.

Here’s the roundup:

🥽 Evercast, the real-time collaboration platform, launched a dedicated Apple Vision Pro app.

☁️ Cloud-based video editor CuttingRoom demoed their new Growing Live Timeline.

🟥 The Studio from B&H had RED’s new V-Raptor XL [X] on display, running their new Phantom Track feature to record two separate signals/video outputs from an LED wall. Check out our previous coverage about the V-Raptor and Phantom Track.

🎭 AOTO had their MINI XR Studio set up - a small LED stage with virtual set extension (supported by stYpe and Stargate Studios).

📺 Teradek showcased their new Teradek TV platform.

💻 Puget Systems announced a high-performance laptop & storage solutions

🌆 Alex Pearce from Light Sail VR demoed their virtual production setup at the Planar booth (with a bunch of other partners). He also has this essay breaking down the hardware/software.

Immersive Video

‣ Evan Clark at ZeroSpace posted a video testing live mocap using Vicon into the Vision Pro. (Check out our interview with Evan when MKBCH and Cleo Abrams visited their studio).

‣ Skyglass 2.0 is coming next week, with AI relighting to match Unreal Engine scenes.

‣ We posted about Apple’s Immersive Video ‘format’ the other week. It looks like the production of the videos (or at least the Alicia Keys one) was with Canon’s VR Dual Fisheye lens.
