Signiant Eliminates Camera Cards with New Direct-to-Cloud Workflow

Signiant has unveiled a new camera-to-any-cloud workflow that eliminates camera cards and writes footage directly to network storage. The solution allows immediate transfer of 8K RAW files to multiple locations simultaneously while enabling preview of RAW footage without proxy generation.

Direct-to-NAS Recording: Recording directly from camera to network storage creates new opportunities for remote collaboration

The system demonstrated at NAB works with Blackmagic cameras shooting in 8K, writing directly to network-attached storage instead of internal media:

  • Content begins transferring to designated storage locations as soon as recording starts

  • Files can be sent to on-premise systems or cloud platforms (Amazon, Microsoft, Google)

  • Multiple destinations can receive the footage simultaneously via accelerated transfer

  • The approach maintains byte-for-byte file integrity throughout the transfer process

  • Proxy-Free Playback: Signiant's newly patented technology allows playback of camera RAW files directly from storage without generating proxies

One of the most significant innovations in this workflow is the ability to preview RAW footage without the traditional proxy generation step:

    • Playback happens directly from whatever storage the footage lands on (cloud or on-premise)

    • Currently supports Blackmagic RAW with plans to expand format compatibility

    • Allows immediate review of footage quality in its native format

    • Metadata is extracted to sidecar files while preserving the original camera files

From Set to Screen: The streamlined workflow addresses key friction points in production pipelines across multiple sectors

The solution is already finding applications in various production environments:

    • Remote producers can quickly review and approve footage without waiting for transfers

    • Post-production teams can begin editing as soon as footage is available

    • Live sports productions benefit from faster turnaround for highlight clips

    • The technology builds upon Signiant's established file transfer capabilities with added intelligence and automation

The Bigger Picture: As production increasingly moves toward real-time remote collaboration, solutions that minimize intermediate steps become increasingly valuable

This advancement represents the continued evolution of Signiant's platform rather than an entirely new product. By connecting cameras directly to storage and enabling immediate access to footage worldwide, production teams can make faster decisions and begin post-production work earlier in the process.

The technology is available now as part of Signiant's standard platform, providing a more efficient bridge between acquisition and post-production for today's distributed workflows.
