Mavis Broadcast Ltd has released Mavis Studio, an iPad app that combines multi-camera switching, audio mixing, graphics, recording, and live streaming into a single touch-optimized interface. The company unveiled the app at NAB 2026 inside the NDI booth.
Key takeaways:
Up to 4 live inputs with NDI HX3 certification, plus internal media sources for video playback, still images, and web-based graphics
16-channel audio desk with gain, EQ, panning, grouping, and master output
Free download with a watermark; $25/month or $80/year removes it, and $40/month or $130/year unlocks NDI
Switcher in Your Bag: Mavis Studio handles four synchronized NDI feeds and can send an NDI output, giving small crews routing flexibility typically found only in hardware switchers.
The app supports custom and preset layouts up to four layers plus a background, with wipe, circle, mix, and video wipe transitions. A faux T-bar enables manual transition control. Internal recording captures in ProRes, and streaming targets include YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch through native integrations or any RTMP and SRT endpoint for custom workflows. HTML5 graphics overlays with alpha channel support handle on-screen branding and lower thirds.
For SDI and HDMI sources, Mavis Studio pairs with the Mavis Camera companion app, which integrates with the Atomos Ninja Phone and Accsoon SeeMo to bring traditional broadcast inputs into the iPad workflow. The app is available on the App Store.
Plays Well With Others: The pricing model puts professional NDI production within reach of creators who would otherwise need fixed hardware racks.
Patrick Holroyd, CEO of Mavis, framed the positioning directly:
"Mavis Studio is designed for productions that want the quality and features typically associated with a traditional broadcast production but with the ease of use and pricing model of a consumer-based app."
Miguel Coutinho, Head of NDI, added context on the certification:
"Creators who want professional multi-camera output should not have to invest in fixed, expensive systems to get it. By building NDI certification into Mavis Studio, that level of production quality is now accessible to a much wider audience."
The app is 46.5MB and requires iPadOS 26.0 or later. Mavis is positioning the tool for video podcasts, live performances, corporate events, and educational productions.
Roll Credits: A tablet-based switcher with NDI HX3, ProRes recording, and a 16-channel audio desk lowers the cost-of-entry for multi-camera live production considerably, particularly for traveling crews and venues that cannot justify a dedicated control room. The watermarked free tier also gives potential users a way to vet the workflow before committing.
