About Sora
Sora was OpenAI's text-to-video generation tool that allowed users to create video content from text prompts. The service is now deprecated and no longer available to new users. The Sora web and app experiences were discontinued on April 26, 2026, with the Sora API sunsetting on September 24, 2026.
For users who created content using Sora before discontinuation, OpenAI provided a data export window. Users could access and export their generated videos by visiting sora.chatgpt.com/sunset and clicking Export. OpenAI notified users by email when exports were ready and recommended downloading content as soon as possible. After the discontinuation period and any final export window, all data associated with Sora usage was permanently deleted.
Users with ChatGPT/Sora subscription credits were able to redirect unused purchased credits toward other OpenAI services like Codex. For refund inquiries related to Sora or ChatGPT subscriptions, users were directed to OpenAI's standard refund request process.
While Sora is no longer available, it represented an important milestone in AI-driven video generation during its operational period. Video professionals and creators who relied on the tool needed to migrate workflows to alternative text-to-video platforms before the service ended.
