iodyne unveiled Pro Data firmware 1.6 at IBC 2025, extending advanced storage features from Mac to Windows and Linux platforms. Cross-platform workflows, zero-copy data access, and collaborative production tools now work seamlessly across operating systems without re-ingesting media or re-encrypting files.

The firmware update arrives as a free upgrade on October 15, 2025 for all existing Pro Data devices, enabling creative teams to optimize workflows by running applications on their native platforms—ingest and dailies on Mac, VFX on Linux, and broadcast tools on Windows.

Platform Liberation: Teams can now access the same encrypted storage across Mac, Windows, and Linux without data duplication.

Multi-Reader Sharing and Storage Handoff capabilities eliminate the traditional bottleneck of moving media between different operating systems during production. Teams working on mixed-platform pipelines can maintain a single source of truth while each department operates in their preferred environment.

VP Land's NAB coverage featuring iodyne's Workflow Kitchen:

The update addresses a persistent challenge in modern production workflows where different tools excel on different platforms. VFX artists typically prefer Linux workstations, while editors often work on Mac systems, and broadcast professionals frequently use Windows-based tools.

"With this update, teams can optimize their workflows by running each application on its native platform, such as ingest and dailies on Mac, VFX on Linux, and broadcast tools on Windows," according to the company's announcement.

Live Demonstrations: IBC attendees can calculate real production time and cost savings through hands-on workflow testing.

At IBC 2025, iodyne showcased practical applications through partner integrations. The demonstrations included:

  • RED Connect integration - Direct camera capture to Pro Data storage over IP, eliminating media cards while providing encrypted, RAID-protected footage that's instantly edit-ready without proxy transcodes

  • Hedge toolchain workflow - Complete pipeline from OffShoot verified ingest through EditReady on-set transcodes to Canister LTO archive, all on the same storage system

  • Softron multicam setup - Compact rig using MovieRecorder to capture up to sixteen 4K30 Apple ProRes 422 streams, ideal for fly-kits and remote productions

The RED Connect demonstration proved particularly compelling, with lab testing showing the architecture can sustain up to thirteen 4K60 MQ R3D cameras simultaneously, and up to thirty-two cameras at 4K24 resolution.

Smart Drive Innovation: Pro Mini introduces field-ready features including customizable digital labels and tap-to-unlock security.

Beyond the Pro Data firmware update, iodyne demonstrated the Pro Mini, positioned as the world's first Smart Drive. The portable solution targets on-set and mobile production scenarios with features designed for secure field operations.

VP Land's NAB coverage featuring the iodyne Pro Mini:

Key Pro Mini capabilities include:

  • Camera media ingest with direct tethering support

  • Portable shoot-to-edit workflows for immediate post-production access

  • Customizable Digital Label for easy identification in multi-drive setups

  • Tap-to-Unlock security combining ease of use with encryption protection

The device expands into cloud and enterprise IT environments, addressing the growing need for secure, portable storage solutions that integrate with existing infrastructure.

The Final Cut: Cross-platform storage unification signals the end of format friction in collaborative production environments.

This firmware release reflects broader industry movement toward platform-agnostic workflows. As productions become increasingly distributed and specialized tools remain platform-specific, storage solutions that work seamlessly across operating systems remove a significant technical barrier.

The timing aligns with virtual production expansion, where Linux-based rendering systems, Mac-based editorial suites, and Windows broadcast tools often need to share the same source media. By eliminating the need for data conversion or duplication between platforms, teams can focus resources on creative work rather than technical workarounds.

For existing iodyne customers, the free firmware upgrade represents immediate workflow improvements without additional hardware investment, while new adopters gain access to mature cross-platform capabilities from day one.
